How to Use These Papers for Exam Preparation

Solving past papers is one of the most effective ways to prepare for ICSE exams. The papers here show the real question format, the mark distribution, and the time limits for each subject.

  • Match the paper to your syllabus: Download the paper for your exact class and subject. The table groups them clearly.
  • Set a timer: Each paper states its own time limit at the top. For example, a Class 4 English Literature paper allows 2 hours plus 15 minutes of reading time. A Class 10 Chemistry paper allows two hours. Stick to the printed limit when you practise.
  • Read the instructions first: Most papers give 15 minutes of reading time before writing begins. Use this time to scan all sections and plan which questions you will attempt.
  • Check the mark tags: Every question shows its marks in brackets, like [2] or [20]. Write your answer in proportion to the marks. A 2-mark question needs a brief point; a 20-mark composition needs full development.

For more subject-specific study material, you can also browse our ICSE books collection or download the ICSE books PDF free for your class. The official CISCE board website publishes the latest syllabus updates and exam schedules.

What These Papers Cover Inside

The 869 papers in the table span a wide range of classes, subjects, and years. Here is what you will find when you open them.

Primary School Papers (Classes 4 to 5)

These papers test foundational skills. A Class 4 Mathematics paper includes fill-in-the-blanks on fractions, prime numbers, and geometry, worth 80 marks. A Class 5 English Language paper asks students to write a 20-mark composition and a 10-mark letter. General Knowledge papers carry 50 marks and ask one-word identification questions. Science and Social Studies papers at this level use fill-in-the-blanks and short-answer formats to test basic concepts like pollution, machines, and climate zones.

Middle School Papers (Classes 6 to 8)

The papers become more structured. A Class 6 Mathematics paper introduces algebra and exponents, with questions like finding the value of |-81| and solving for variables. Class 7 Biology papers ask students to name specific structures like guard cells and digestive juices. Class 8 Chemistry papers require balancing chemical equations and writing chemical names from formulas like NaNO_2 and Mg_3N_2. History and Civics papers at this stage cover the Mauryan dynasty, the UNO, and fundamental rights.

Class 9 and 10 Board-Level Papers

Class 9 papers follow a format close to the board exams. A Class 9 Mathematics paper carries 80 marks and allows 2 hours and 30 minutes plus 15 minutes reading time. It includes rationalisation, factorisation, and solving simultaneous equations like 41x + 53y = 135 and 53x + 41y = 147.

Class 10 papers are the actual ICSE board exam papers. A Class 10 Chemistry paper is a two-hour exam with 80 marks, split into Section I (40 marks, compulsory) and Section II (40 marks, attempt any four). A Class 10 Mathematics paper allows two and a half hours. A Class 10 English Language paper advises spending not more than 35 minutes on Question 1 (composition) and 20 minutes on Question 2.

Class 11 and 12 ISC Papers

The table also includes ISC papers for Classes 11 and 12. A Class 12 Physics Paper 1 carries 70 marks and is a three-hour exam divided into four sections. A Class 12 Accounts paper carries 80 marks and requires all calculations and working to be shown on the same page as the answer. Class 12 Biology and Chemistry papers follow a similar structure: a 20-mark compulsory Part I, followed by sections carrying 2, 3, and 5 marks each.

Common Mistakes Students Make While Solving Past Papers

MistakeCorrect RuleHow to Check
Ignoring the reading timeMost papers give 15 minutes to read before writing. Use it to plan your answers.Check the instruction block at the top of the paper.
Writing too much for low-mark questionsA [2] mark question needs one or two precise points, not a full paragraph.Look at the mark tag in brackets next to each question.
Skipping the compulsory sectionSection A or Part I is always compulsory. You cannot choose to skip it.Read the section instructions carefully before starting.
Not showing working in Maths and AccountsPapers state that omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.Write every step of your calculation on the same answer sheet.
Choosing the wrong number of questionsMany sections say “attempt any four” or “attempt any two.” Count carefully.Highlight the instruction and tick the questions you attempt.
