How to use these chapter PDFs for ICSE exam preparation

Downloading a PDF is only the first step. To get real value, you need a system for working through each chapter. Here is a method that works across subjects and classes.

  • Read the learning objectives first. Every chapter opens with a list of goals. Read them before the chapter so you know what to look for.
  • Write definitions in your own words. Copying a definition does not mean you understand it. Close the PDF and try to write it from memory.
  • Work the solved examples on paper. Cover the solution, try the problem yourself, then check your steps against the book.
  • Attempt every exercise. The exercise sets at the end of each chapter are where most exam questions come from. Do not skip them.
  • Mark your mistakes. Keep a separate notebook for errors. Write the question, your wrong answer, and the correct method. Review this notebook before every test.

For more textbook resources across all ICSE classes, you can browse our ICSE books directory. If you want downloadable PDFs organised by subject, the ICSE books PDF collection lists every available file.

Common mistakes students make while studying these chapters

Students often lose marks not because they do not know the topic, but because of small, repeatable errors. Here are the ones that show up most often across these PDFs.

SubjectCommon mistakeCorrect approach
MathematicsSkipping the unit when writing a final answerAlways write the unit (m, kg, cm²) next to the number. A correct number with no unit loses the mark.
ChemistryForgetting to balance a chemical equationCount atoms on both sides before moving on. If they do not match, the equation is wrong.
PhysicsUsing the wrong formula for the questionWrite the given values first, then choose the formula that fits those variables.
BiologyWriting definitions from memory without key termsInclude the specific biological terms the chapter uses. Vague descriptions do not score.
GeographyConfusing rotation and revolution effectsRotation causes day and night. Revolution causes seasons. State which one you mean.

What these PDFs cover inside each subject

The download table groups PDFs by class and subject. Here is what you will find inside each subject across the classes.

  • Mathematics builds from number systems and fractions in Class 6 through rational numbers, compound interest, factorisation, and quadratic equations in Classes 9 and 10. The chapters include worked examples and exercise sets.
  • Physics covers measurement, force, friction, and energy in the middle classes, then moves to motion, heat, light, and machines. Class 10 adds turning forces, refraction, and the spectrum.
  • Chemistry starts with elements, compounds, and acids in Class 7, moves to hydrogen, carbon, and metals in Class 8, and covers the periodic table, chemical bonding, and electrolysis by Class 10.
  • Biology begins with living things and plant classification in Class 6, moves to cells and nutrition in Class 7, and reaches genetics, photosynthesis, and the circulatory system by Class 10.
  • Geography (Class 6) covers the Earth as a planet, the geographic grid, rotation and revolution, landforms, and rocks.
