ICSE Class 8 Maths Books – Chapters, Practice & PDFs

This page is the working list of ICSE Class 8 Maths books: 73 chapters across 11 books, with what each chapter contains and its PDF. Every chapter in the table below has its PDF on this page, so the books you searched for are inside the first screen.

What the PDFs alone do not show is what is inside each chapter. The table counts each chapter’s named sections, its practice questions and its pages — read from the book, not guessed. The notes under each chapter tell you what it works through, and the Class 8 books hub links the other subjects.

How to revise Class 8 Maths chapter by chapter

  1. Start algebra with Fundamental Concepts and Operations (Maths-Algebra Chapter 1). Terms, factors, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of algebraic expressions all live here, and Special Products and Expansions, Factorisaion and the equation chapters assume it.
  2. Then work the equations sequence: Linear Equations and Inequations (Maths Chapter 16, 66 questions) and Simple Linear Equations (Maths-Algebra Chapter 19, 68 questions). Both are practice-heavy.
  3. Next, the sets sequence: Sets (Maths Chapter 37) → Venn Diagrams (Maths Chapter 38) → Ordered Pair Cartesian Product (Maths Chapter 39) → Relations and Mappings (Maths Chapter 40).
  4. Geometry needs its own order: Fundamental Concepts (Maths-Geometry Chapter 1) → Triangles (Maths-Geometry Chapter 26) → Quadrilaterals (Maths-Geometry Chapter 28) → Constructions (Maths Chapter 24, 96 questions).
  5. Mensuration next: Perimeter and Area of Plane Figures (Maths Chapter 32) → Volume and Surface Area Cuboid Cube (Maths Chapter 33).
  6. Leave statistics for last: Collection and Tabulation of Data (Maths Chapter 34) → Graphical Represention of Statistical Data (Maths Chapter 35) → Arithmetic Mean Mode and Median (Maths Chapter 36).

Practice weight in the Maths book is heaviest in Constructions, with 96 questions, and Linear Equations and Inequations, with 66 — a sign of where the syllabus expects time. The table’s question counts let you judge a chapter’s weight before you open it.

Common mistakes to avoid in Class 8 Maths

  • Applying an operation to only one side of the formula. Changing the subject of a formula in Chapter 11 is not the same as solving a linear equation in Chapter 16. Whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other.
  • Treating a shared chapter title as revision. Linear Equations appears in Maths Chapter 16 and Maths-Algebra Chapter 19 with different exercises. Check the book name in the table before you skip a chapter.
  • Ignoring question counts when planning time. Constructions sets 96 questions and Percentage and Its Applications sets 93; Formulae sets 24. Let the table’s counts decide where your session time goes.

Sources and data verification

The counts in the table describe 11 textbooks: Maths, Maths-Algebra, Maths-Arithmetical-Problems, Maths-Commercial-Arithmetic, Maths-Geometry, Maths-Mensuration, Maths-Number-Systems, Maths-Numbers, Maths-Sets, Maths-Statistics and Selina Concise. Every count was read from those books and can be checked against the PDF on this page.

CISCE sets the ICSE syllabus and examinations; a student opens cisce.org to verify the official syllabus and exam format for Class 8 Maths. Textbooks are chosen by schools, and CISCE prescribes none of them — publishers and editions differ from school to school.

Class 8 Maths books: frequently asked questions

How many chapters are in the ICSE Class 8 Maths books on this page?

This page lists 73 chapters across 11 books. The table counts each chapter’s sections, practice questions and pages, so you can compare chapter weights before opening a PDF.

Are the chapter PDFs on this page free to download?

Yes. Every chapter listed in the table has its PDF on this page. There is no separate download page to hunt for.

Which chapter covers linear equations?

Linear equations appear in more than one book. Maths Chapter 16 is titled Linear Equations and Inequations, and Maths-Algebra Chapter 19 is titled Simple Linear Equations. Maths-Algebra Chapter 8 offers a further treatment.

The same chapter title appears in more than one book — do I need to study both?

Yes — each version needs separate study. Linear Equations appears in Maths Chapter 16 and Maths-Algebra Chapter 19, and both set different exercises. The same is true for titles like Symmetry Reflection and Rotation, which appears in Maths-Geometry and Selina Concise, and Special Products and Expansions, which appears twice in Maths-Algebra.

Which chapter should I start with?

Start with Fundamental Concepts and Operations in Maths-Algebra Chapter 1. Special Products, Factorisation and the equation chapters all assume what it teaches.
