ICSE Class 6 Geography Books: Chapters, Practice & PDFs
This page lists the chapters of the ICSE Class 6 Geography books: the Geography textbook’s 10 chapters, with what each one contains. Each listed chapter’s PDF opens from the table below where one is available.
The PDFs alone do not show what is inside. This page counts each chapter’s sections, practice questions and pages from the book, then says what those sections teach. If you need one chapter — say, the one on time zones — find it in the chapter list and open its PDF from the table.

ICSE Class 6 Geography Books: what is inside each chapter
The table counts each chapter three ways. A section is one of the book’s own main headings; sub-headings are not counted. A practice question is a numbered item under an exercise heading. Pages are the chapter’s pages in the PDF. The explainers below follow the order of the book’s sections, so you can read any chapter alongside its section list.
Chapter 1: Earth as a Planet (Geography)
The chapter begins with the shape of the Earth and the proofs that it is spherical. It explains why the Earth is an oblate spheroid and what makes it a planet. It then turns to the Earth as the home of humankind — distance from the Sun, temperature, atmosphere, water, the solid crust, the biosphere and the life-giving cycles.
- The Shape of the Earth
- Proof that the Earth is Spherical in shape
- The Earth as a Planet
- Earth an Oblate Spheroid
- Earth as the Home of Humankind
- Distance from the Sun
and 6 more
The chapter’s Exercises set runs 8 questions, the largest of its three sets.
Chapter 2: Geographic Grid Laitudes and Longitufes (Geography)
The grid is built from lines of latitude and longitude. Latitudes mark out the northern and southern hemispheres; longitudes lead into time — local time, time zones and standard time, including Greenwich Mean Time. A worked out example for calculating the time at a place shows the method. The International Date Line, locating places, and great and small circles follow.
- Geographic Grid: Latitudes and Longitudes
- Lines of Latitude
- Main Latitudes
- Northern and Southern Hemisphere
- Uses of Latitudes
- Lines of Longitude
and 18 more
Most of the chapter’s practice sits in I. Short Answer Questions, at 14 items.
Chapter 3: Rotation and Revolution (Geography)
Earth moves in two ways, and this chapter takes them one at a time. For rotation, it covers the spinning of the Earth, its characteristics and effects, and the significance of the inclined axis — which changes the duration of day and night and drives the seasons. For revolution, it covers the yearly orbit, solstices and equinoxes, the angle of incidence, the cycle of seasons, and twilight in low and high latitudes.
- Rotation and Revolution
- Rotation of the Earth
- Characteristics of Rotation
- Effects of the Rotation of the Earth
- Inclination of Earth’s Axis and Its Significance
- Effect of the Inclined Axis on the duration of day and night
and 10 more
I. Short Answer Questions carries the chapter’s most questions — 21.
Chapter 5: Landforms of the Earth (Geography)
Why do landforms develop? The chapter answers that first. It then takes up the main landforms — mountains and fold mountains, plateaus, and plains with structural plains and depositional plains — and turns to the importance of landforms.
- Landforms of the Earth
- Causes of Landform Development
- Landforms
- Mountains
- Fold Mountains
- Plateaus
and 5 more
The chapter’s biggest set is I. Short Answer Questions, with 20 questions.
Chapter 6: Rocks (Geography)
Rocks sorts the crust’s material into types. It takes up igneous rocks, then sedimentary rocks, their characteristics and the processes involved, and classifies them on the basis of the agents of formation.
- Types of Rocks
- Igneous Rocks
- Sedimentary Rocks
- Characteristics of Sedimentary Rocks
- Processes Involved
- Classification on the Basis of Agents Formation
I. Short Answer Questions alone runs 35 questions, the chapter’s largest exercise.
Chapter 7: Volcanoes (Geography)
Volcanoes begins with the causes of volcanic eruptions. It covers the products of a volcano and the structure of a volcano, then the types of volcanoes, their effects — destructive effects included — and the important volcanic zones of the world.
- Volcanoes
- Causes of Volcanic Eruptions
- Products of a Volcano
- Structure of a Volcano
- Types of Volcanoes
- Effects of Volcanoes
and 2 more
A single short-answer exercise of 7 questions holds this chapter’s practice.
Chapter 8: Earthquakes (Geography)
Earthquakes looks at what causes earthquakes, then at the anatomy of an earthquake. Measurement is handled through a seismograph and the Richter Scale and the Mercalli Scale. The chapter also covers the effects of earthquakes, constructive and destructive, where earthquakes are distributed, and predicting earthquakes.
- Earthquakes
- Causes of Earthquakes
- Anatomy of an Earthquake
- Measurements
- Seismograph
- Richter Scale and the Mercalli Scale
and 5 more
Of the three sets, Ii. Short Answer Questions is the largest, at 10 questions.
Chapter 9: Weathering (Geography)
The chapter sorts weathering into types. It then explains chemical weathering and biological weathering.
- Types of Weathering
- Chemical Weathering
- Biological Weathering
The I. Short Answer Questions set holds 11 questions, the most in the chapter.
Chapter 10: Denudation (Geography)
The work of a river is the chapter’s focus. It names the factors affecting the work of a river, follows the course of a river through its upper course, and looks at the landforms the river produces.
- Work of a River
- Factors Affecting Work of a River
- Course of a River
- Upper Course
- Landforms
- II. Project / Map Work
This chapter’s practice is one short-answer set with 12 questions.
Chapter 12: Composition and Structure of Atmosphere (Geography)
The air around the Earth is treated as a blanket. The chapter covers the composition of the atmosphere and its functions, then moves through the layers — troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, ionosphere and exosphere — before taking up the causes of global warming and its impact.
- Blanket of Air
- Composition of the Atmosphere
- Functions of the Atmosphere
- Structure of the Atmosphere
- Troposphere
- Characteristics
and 7 more
One exercise — I. Short Answer Questions — holds 15 questions.
How to revise Class 6 Geography chapter by chapter
Work in this order — each chapter sets up the next.
- Chapter 1, Earth as a Planet: start here. It sets the basic facts every later chapter builds on.
- Chapter 3, Rotation and Revolution: next, because day, night and seasons explain the grid.
- Chapter 2, Geographic Grid: after the motions. Latitudes, longitudes and time make sense once rotation is understood.
- Chapter 5, Landforms of the Earth: the surface features in detail.
- Chapter 6, Rocks: the material those landforms are made of.
- Chapter 7, Volcanoes and Chapter 8, Earthquakes: the forces that build and shake the surface.
- Chapters 9 and 10, Weathering and Denudation: the forces that wear the surface down.
- Chapter 12, Composition and Structure of Atmosphere: read last, after the surface and the forces acting on it.
Practice loads differ, and the table shows how. Rocks carries the most — 40 questions across two exercises; Rotation and Revolution (25) and Landforms of the Earth (24) also carry long question sets. Project or practical work appears in chapters 2, 5 and 10. A working rhythm: read the section list above, open the PDF, then attempt the largest question set once. The Class 6 books hub lists every subject the same way.
