ICSE Class 10 Half Yearly Tests Geography PDF

Here you can download ICSE class 10 half yearly tests geography papers. The table provides three school-level exam PDFs spanning the 2017, 2019, and 2026 sessions. These files help you practise the exact paper pattern and question types used for Class X Geography half-yearly and second-term exams.

Each paper tests topographical mapping and geography fundamentals. The 2017 and 2019 papers use Survey of India sheet 45D/10, while the 2026 second-term paper uses sheet G43S7. Use them to build speed in map reading and to check your written answers against the marking rules.

These are the 3 half-yearly tests PDFs hosted on icseboard.org for ICSE Class 10 Geography, organised by subject. Each section below explains what those papers cover before the download table.

Three Class 10 Geography exam papers covering half-yearly and second-term tests from 2017, 2019, and 2026. Each paper is an 80-mark exam with a compulsory 30-mark Part I built around a 20-mark Survey of India topographical map extract, followed by a 50-mark Part II requiring five questions. The papers test map reading skills (grid references, contours, distances) alongside geography topics like transport, waste management, and landforms.

What These Geography Papers Cover Inside

Every paper in the table follows the same 80-mark structure. Part I is compulsory and carries 30 marks. Part II requires five questions and carries 50 marks. The compulsory first question is always a topographical map extract worth 20 marks.

The map questions test grid references, contour intervals, direction, and distance measurement. Later questions cover transport, waste management, and map reading terms. The 2019 paper asks about waterways, roadways, the Golden Quadrilateral, and waste segregation. The 2026 paper asks for six-grid and four-grid references, contour intervals, and compass directions.

How to Use These Half-Yearly Papers for Exam Preparation

Start with the oldest paper to learn the format. Then move to the 2026 paper to practise the current question style. Do not just read the questions. Write your answers under timed conditions.

  • Map work first: Spend 30 minutes on the 20-mark topography question. It is the largest single block.
  • Time yourself: The 2017 and 2019 papers allow 2 hours plus 15 minutes of reading time. The 2026 paper allows 2 hours. Use the 15 minutes to read before you write.
  • Check mark tags: A [2] tag means a two-point answer. Write two clear points.
  • Practise distances: Measure map distances in kilometres using the scale. Check your string or ruler against the map legend.

Topics That Recur Across the 2017, 2019 and 2026 Papers

Some topics appear in multiple years. These are the high-frequency areas to prioritise.

TopicYears AskedTypical Marks
Topographical map extract (grid references, contours, direction)2017, 2019, 202620 marks (Q1)
Transport (waterways, roadways, Golden Quadrilateral, corridors)201910 marks (Q9)
Waste management (composting, segregation, land filling, marine pollution)201910 marks (Q10)
Six-grid and four-grid references2017, 20261-2 marks each
Contour interval and elevation difference2017, 20262 marks each

The topography question is the most consistent. It appears in all three papers as Question 1. Practise it first.

Worked Example: Four-Figure Grid Reference

The 2017 paper asks for the four-figure grid reference of a settlement. The 2026 paper asks for the four-grid reference of Arniwada. Here is how to find one.

  1. Locate the settlement on the map. Place a ruler or straight edge through its centre.
  2. \

  3. Read the easting number at the bottom of the grid square. This is the first two digits.
  4. Read the northing number at the side of the grid square. This is the last two digits.
  5. Write the four-figure reference as easting followed by northing. For example, if the settlement is in easting 14 and northing 13, the reference is 1413.

A common error is to reverse the order. Always read eastings first, northings second. The rule is “along the corridor and up the stairs.”

Marking Guidance From the Mark Tags

The papers use bracketed numbers like [2] to show marks. The 2026 paper uses (1) and (2). Match your answer length to the marks.

  • 1-mark questions: Give one word or one short phrase. Example: “What is \triangle 592?” Answer: a spot height of 592 metres.
  • 2-mark questions: Give two points or one definition plus one example. Example: “State two advantages of roadways.” Write two separate advantages.
  • 20-mark map question: Answer all sub-parts. Each sub-part is worth 1-2 marks. Do not skip any.

Common Mistakes Students Make in Geography Half-Yearly Papers

  • Reversing grid references: Writing northing before easting. Always write easting first.
  • Ignoring reading time: The 2017 and 2019 papers give 15 minutes of reading time. Use it to plan answers. Do not start writing.
  • Skipping map sub-parts: The 20-mark map question has parts (a) through (g). Each part matters. Attempt every one.
  • Measuring distance wrong: Use the map scale to convert centimetres to kilometres. A string helps measure curved features like cart tracks.
  • Writing one point for a two-mark question: A [2] tag needs two distinct points. Write both.
