ICSE Class 9 Biology Books – Chapters, Practice & PDFs
The ICSE Class 9 Biology books covered on this page come from the Selina Concise series. Exactly two chapters are listed here: Chapter 18, Health Organisations, and Chapter 19, Waste Generation and Management. Each chapter’s PDF is in the directory below.
This page gives what the PDFs alone do not: what is inside each chapter, counted from the book. For both chapters you get the named sections, the number of practice questions, and the page length in the PDF. The ICSE Class 9 books hub lists the other subjects covered on this site.
The syllabus this chapter follows is set by the CISCE board.

ICSE Class 9 Biology Books: what is inside each chapter
In the directory table, a section is one of the book’s own main headings, such as 18.1 or 19.2. Sub-headings are not counted. A practice question is a numbered item under an exercise heading. Pages are the chapter’s pages in the PDF.
Chapter 18: Health Organisations (Selina Concise)
Health Organisations moves from the health problems the country faces to the international bodies concerned with health. Reading the two sections in that order shows the movement from national health issues to international bodies.
- 18.1 Common Health Problems in India
- 18.2 International Bodies
Review Questions is the practice exercise, with 10 questions.
Chapter 19: Waste Generation and Management (Selina Concise)
Waste Generation and Management opens by asking what counts as waste, then sorts wastes into categories, and moves to the methods used to dispose of them safely.
- 19.1 What IS a Waste ?
- 19.2 Categories of Wastes
- 19.3 Methods of Safe Disposal of Wastes
The chapter’s practice is split between Progress Check (11 questions) and Review Questions (14 questions).
How to revise Class 9 Biology chapter by chapter
- Chapter 18, Health Organisations, first. It is the shorter chapter, with one exercise of 10 questions. Its two sections move from India’s health problems to the international bodies.
- Chapter 19, Waste Generation and Management, second. It carries the heavier practice load: 25 questions across Progress Check and Review Questions. Read the three sections in order before attempting the exercise.
- If you have one revision session, read Chapter 18 in about ten minutes, then work through Chapter 19’s three sections and spend the rest of the time on its Review Questions.
Both chapters are the closing chapters of the Selina Concise book, numbered 18 and 19, so they are often revised together before a term test. Chapter 18 takes less time; Chapter 19 needs the practice.
Common mistake in Chapter 19: categories versus disposal methods
A common mistake when revising Chapter 19 is to answer a definition question about waste types using the disposal section. Keep the two sections separate.
- Definition answers on types of waste come from 19.2 Categories of Wastes.
- Method answers on handling waste come from 19.3 Methods of Safe Disposal of Wastes.
How chapters 18 and 19 fit the Class 9 Biology syllabus
Chapters 18 and 19 are the closing chapters of the Selina Concise book. CISCE sets the syllabus and conducts the examinations; it does not prescribe a particular textbook.
One detail to notice: Chapter 19 opens by asking “What IS a Waste?” in section 19.1. That is the exact framing students meet when definitions are asked, so read it carefully before moving to categories.
