ICSE Class 7 Physics Books: Chapters, Practice & PDFs

Looking for the ICSE Class 7 Physics books? This page covers two chapters — Heat and Electricity — and each chapter’s PDF is on this page. The directory below shows both chapters with their sections, practice questions and page counts. Other chapters of the Class 7 Physics book are not on this page yet.

The PDFs alone do not tell you what you will study. This page counts, from the book itself, each chapter’s named sections, its practice questions and its pages. That is how you can tell, before downloading anything, which chapter answers the question you were set. For every subject, start from the full Class 7 books list.

ICSE Class 7 Physics Books: what is inside each chapter

The directory’s numbers count three things. A section is one of the book’s own main headings; sub-headings are not counted. A practice question is a numbered item under an exercise heading. Pages are the chapter’s pages in the PDF.

Chapter 4: Heat (Physics)

Heat opens by asking what heat is and where it comes from: fire, the sun and electricity. It then explains temperature and how a mercury thermometer is filled, calibrated and set to fixed points. The effects of heat follow — fusion or melting, freezing, vapourisation or boiling, condensation, sublimation, solidification and expansion. After that come thermal expansion of solids and liquids, then conduction, convection and radiation, and the thermos flask.

The chapter’s main sections are:

  • Heat
  • A. Effects of Heat and Change in State
  • What IS Heat ?
  • Sources of Heat
  • (i) Fire
  • Knowledge bank

and 36 more

The Intext Questions set carries the most questions — 19 of them.

Chapter 8: Electricity (Physics)

The chapter explains why electricity matters and where it comes from: the dry cell, the mains, the electric generator, solar cells, wind and water. The effects of electricity are sorted into heating, magnetic, chemical and mechanical. Circuits come next — symbols, circuit diagrams, how current flows, and conductors versus insulators. Later sections cover household wiring, the Miniature Circuit Breaker, hazards and precautions, and the need to conserve electricity.

Its main sections run:

  • Electricity
  • Importance of Electricity
  • Electricity — an Introduction
  • Electricity Generation
  • Sources of Electricity
  • Construction and Working of a Dry Cell

and 27 more

The Test Yourself set has 48 questions.

How to revise Class 7 Physics chapter by chapter

  1. Start with Heat. It introduces energy in daily life — sources of heat, temperature and change of state — before any circuit work.
  2. Move to Electricity next. Its heating effect of current reads more easily after Heat has explained temperature and energy transfer, and the chapter adds circuits, symbols and safety.
  3. Do the Intext Questions of both chapters first, while each idea is fresh. Work the end exercises afterwards.
  4. Use Electricity’s Test Yourself set of 48 questions as a timed 20-minute revision, once symbols and circuit diagrams are clear.
  5. Plan with the directory counts: Heat sets 48 questions across five exercise sets — Intext Questions holds the most, at 19, while E. Long answer questions adds 11. Electricity sets 55 across two, with Test Yourself holding 48.

The two chapters are independent enough to revise separately. Still, Heat first makes the heating effect in Electricity easier to read, because the ideas of temperature and energy transfer carry over. If other subjects are on your list, the Class 7 books hub keeps every subject’s chapter directory in one place.

Common mistake: the fused bulb. A fused bulb stops glowing because its filament breaks and the circuit becomes incomplete — not because the current has run out. The broken filament leaves a gap, so no current flows through the bulb.

Use this household safety revision checklist after studying the Electricity chapter’s safety sections:

  • Hazards of Electricity: list the hazards the book names and say what makes each one dangerous.
  • Precautions to BE Taken While Using Electricity: match each precaution to the hazard it prevents.
  • Miniature Circuit Breaker (Mcb): explain what the Miniature Circuit Breaker does.

The seven effects of heat in everyday life

The Heat chapter names seven effects of heat on matter. Each one is easy to spot in everyday life:

  • Fusion or melting: an ice cube turning to water in a warm hand.
  • Freezing: water turning to ice in the freezer.
  • Vapourisation or boiling: steam rising from a kettle as water boils.
  • Condensation: droplets forming on the outside of a cold glass.
  • Sublimation: camphor disappearing from a cupboard without melting.
  • Solidification: molten wax setting hard around a candle wick.
  • Expansion: mercury rising in a thermometer as the room warms.

Match each example to its name and you can tell the effects apart without memorising definitions.

Sources and data verification

The counts on this page describe the two chapter PDFs in the directory: Physics Chapter 4 Heat (24 pages) and Physics Chapter 8 Electricity (19 pages).

Every count — sections, practice questions and pages — was read from those books. You can check any number against the chapter PDF itself.

This page covers 2 chapters. The chapters below are not on this page yet:

  • Physics: chapters 1 (Mass, Weight and Density; Measurement), 2 (Force and Motion; Motion), 3 (Sound), 5 (Light and Shadows; Light: The Basic Idea of Shadow), 6 (Reflection of Light; Reflection of Light: Plane Mirrors), and 7 (Electricity; Reflection of Light: Spherical Mirrors) are not on this page yet.

Class 7 Physics books: frequently asked questions

How many chapters of ICSE Class 7 Physics are on this page?

Two: Heat and Electricity. These are chapters 4 and 8 in the editions this page covers. Other chapters of the Class 7 Physics book — Sound, Light, Force and Motion, and more — are not on this page yet.

Are the ICSE Class 7 Physics chapter PDFs free to use?

Yes. Each listed chapter’s PDF is on this page, in the chapter directory. Use the PDF link in the row for Heat or for Electricity.

Which chapter explains why a fused bulb does not glow?

The Electricity chapter. Look for the section ‘Why does a fused bulb not glow’ inside it.

Where does the Heat chapter explain how different liquids expand when heated?

In the Heat chapter, in the sections ‘Thermal Expansion of Liquids’ and ‘Equal Volumes of Different Liquids Expand by Different Amounts When Heated Equally’.

My book numbers Electricity as Chapter 7 — is that the chapter this page calls Chapter 8?

It may be the same chapter. School editions of the Class 7 Physics book number the chapters differently, and CISCE prescribes no single textbook. Compare the chapter title and its section list, not the number.
