| Paper | Marks | Time | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language, Paper 1 (2025) | 80 | 2 hours | Composition, letter, notice, grammar, comprehension |

Paper 2 has four sections. Section A is compulsory. You attempt one question from each of Sections B, C and D, plus one more from any section you choose.
Question Types That Recur Across Both 2025 Papers
Both Paper 1 PDFs from 2025 follow the same structure. The composition question offers five options, and you pick one. The options follow a fixed pattern.
- Original short story with a given closing line (asked in both 2025 papers)
- Narrative account of a personal experience or challenge
- Opinion essay expressing views for or against a statement
- Descriptive writing about a scene or situation
- Picture-based composition where you write a story or description from a visual prompt
Paper 2 Section A uses multiple-choice questions worth 16 marks. The 2025 papers test your knowledge of Julius Caesar. Question types include putting events in sequence and matching statements to characters.
How to Use These Assessment Papers for Preparation
These papers show you the exact format and timing of a real ICSE English assessment. Here is how to get the most out of them.
- Simulate exam conditions. Sit with the paper for 2 hours. Do not pause or check answers until time is up.
- Watch the clock on Question 1. The paper caps composition at 30 minutes. If you overrun, you lose time for the rest.
- Practise the 300-350 word limit. Count your words. Examiners deduct marks for writing too little or too much.
- For Paper 2, revise the texts first. The MCQs test plot sequence and character detail. Read Julius Caesar and your poetry and prose texts before attempting the paper.
